POSITION: General Foreman
DEPARTMENT: Mechanical
LOCATION: Chicago, IL
Annual Salary Range: $63,000 - $80,000

DUTIES: The General Foreman is responsible for directing the operation of an area performing inspection, running repairs, modifications, and/or light overhauls for cars and/or locomotives in an operating Division. This includes, but is not limited to, numbers of mechanics, laborers, and technicians using large and small production machinery and moderate amounts of material. A General Foreman may also manage commuter, regional, and State mechanical efforts. A General Foreman typically directs foremen, who in turn direct hourly employees. A General Foreman is also responsible for enforcing the Corporations rights under collective bargaining agreements. A General Foreman coordinates his or her efforts with the Transportation operations and supports the local
Engineering efforts to improve the infrastructure. The position requires strict implementation of Maintenance Alerts, FRA and FDA regulations, suppliers, MI/GEK bulletins and SMP's.

A key responsibility is to execute complex inspection and servicing operations. The work requires imagination, problem solving skills,
and flexibility. The work must conform to safety, regulatory, and passenger aesthetic requirements. The ability to schedule human
resources and direct their efficient use is crucial. The ability to communicate specific goals through a chain of command is an aspect
of the position. A General Foreman must exercise basic budgetary skills in the execution of a plan.

EDUCATION: Must have Associates Degree in Engineering or Administration, or the equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Prefer BS Degree in Engineering, Administration, Economics, or Accounting, or completion of a multi-year railway
shopcraft apprenticeship.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Must have demonstrated manufacturing experience in transit, railway, or utility service, repair, and maintenance.
Experience in managing a service/operations with complex collective bargaining agreements. Prefer knowledge in railway and rail transit rolling stock. Knowledgeable in contract management or procurement and in some areas of AAR, FDA, FTA, and FRA standards.

OTHER: Knowledge of accepted industry quality standards. Experience in managing a multi-shift operation, in material management, and in quality control.

COMMUNICATION & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Good written and verbal communications skills are required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Craft employees ARSA foremen; number of employees varies. Approximately 145 employees.

TRAVEL: 5 percent.

Must have prior satisfactory job performance.
