SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Manager, Reservations Systems Application Development, is directly responsible for managing a world-class development, technical management and service delivery capability within Amtrak for its mission-critical reservation platform. The current reservation platform (Arrow) is a TPF-based, highly-integrated and scalable mainframe system that has been at the heart of Amtrak for over 25 years. With the renewed focus and momentum on passenger rail, Amtrak is aggressively moving forward with a multi-year plan to significantly enhance and modernize this reservation platform and associated applications by adopting z/TPF and driving towards a services model approach (SOA), with a complete refactoring of the codebase and integration services. This position is highly technical in nature and will be one of Amtraks key experts in the reservations systems area and will lead, build and supervise a world-class team of application and system developers. This position also works very closely with all areas and levels in IT and Amtrak business units to deliver responsive reservations systems and application leadership and ownership.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology Management or other related field, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Masters degree in related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated technical experience in TPF/zTPF technologies and from at least one of the following areas in TPFDF, Web Services, MVS/DB2, C/C++, and/or Oracle/SQL; some experience in IT management.
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE: Strong experience in SOA environment on z/TPF.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: A strong team and customer focused IT leader with a demonstrated ability to manage a significant business applications function.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: May supervise 5-10 Amtrak employees.
TRAVEL: 5%
