SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Manager, Web/Distributed Systems Application Development, is directly responsible for managing a world-class development, technical management and service delivery capability within Amtrak for its mission-critical web/distributed systems within the Marketing and Product Development IT portfolio. Some of the current web/distributed applications include, Amtrak.com, Station Kiosk (Quik-Trak), Station and Contact Center Agent Systems, VRU, ACD, Customer Systems, Revenue/Pricing, and Onboard Systems to name a few. These systems represent broad capabilities within Amtrak. With the renewed focus and momentum on passenger rail, Amtrak is aggressively moving forward with a multi-year plan to significantly enhance many of these web/distributed systems with strong world-class development practices/environment utilizing a state-of-the-art services model approach to leverage common services within these applications. This position is highly technical in nature and will be one of Amtraks key experts in innovative and revolutionary web/distributed development practices and will lead, build and supervise a world-class team of application and system developers. This position also works very closely with all areas and levels in IT and Amtrak business units to deliver responsive reservations systems and application leadership and ownership.

EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology Management or other related field, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

PREFERRED EDUCATION: Masters degree in related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated technical experience in reliable, high-end, high-volume, complex systems environment. Must have previous deep technical experience in two of the following areas: Java, C++, .NET, IBM Websphere, Oracle.

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE: Strong experience in SOA environment.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: A strong team and customer focused IT leader with a demonstrated ability to manage a significant business application function.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises one Amtrak employee and 10+ non-employees.

TRAVEL: 5%
