POSITION: Road Foreman - Special Duty
DEPARTMENT: Operations

DUTIES: Manages engine service crews, and also supervises train crews to ensure the safe efficient operation of locomotives and trains in a specific area. Primary responsibility includes: provide leadership, mentoring and guidance to locomotive engineers; oversee operation coordination with other Transportation staff. Ensure crew compliance with operating rules, federal regulations and safety rules by performing documented observations of employees performing their duties. Handle all deficiencies in a consistent and fair manner in accordance with the appropriate labor agreement. Perform locomotive proficiency exams in accordance with Amtrak guidelines. Candidate is expected to respond to service disruptions as timely as possible to facilitate the restoration of normal service. Responsibilities also include the timely submission of required documentation for unusual occurrences, injuries and all other service related incidents.

EDUCATION: Must have a high school diploma or the equivalent. Prefer Bachelors Degree in Transportation, Business or related field or combination of education, training and/or work experience preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Certified Class 1 Train Service Engineer. Some operating experience with no violations described in CFR 49 Part 240.117, as Train Service Engineer and/or as Road Foreman. Prefer qualified as a designated supervisor of Locomotive Engineers. Qualified as a designated supervisor of Locomotive Engineers. Qualified on physical characteristics of territory. Demonstrated business and financial management experience is a plus.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Satisfy qualification requirements as DSLE within 6 months of becoming a Road Foreman. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills. Demonstrated knowledge of CFR 49 requirements and BLE labor contracts. Some knowledge of Amtrak policies and procedures. Some general knowledge of locomotives and rolling stock.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Demonstrated written and verbal communications skills that are concise and clear.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Will supervise directly and indirectly approximately 65 employees.

TRAVEL: 75%
