The closing date for this position is November 25, 2009. The salary for this position is $75,000 - $97,000 per year.

Summary of Duties:
Manages engine service personnel and supervise train crews to ensure safe and efficient operation of locomotives and trains. Principal responsibilities include providing leadership, mentoring and guiding locomotive engineers; oversee train operations in compliance with rules and regulations of operating carriers, Federal regulatory agencies, and Amtrak labor agreements. Monitor employee performance for compliance with policies and procedures, and take consistent corrective action for non-conforming behavior. Manage train operations and recommend improvements for best possible on time performance. Respond to service disruptions and address reporting requirements promptly. Interview, select and manage new hire locomotive engineers and train crews, oversee, evaluate and document observations. Manage locomotive engineer certification requirements, conduct operational efficiency tests, and manage train and engine budget.
Education:
Must have a high school education or equivalent. Prefer Bachelors degree in Transportation, Business or related field or equivalent combination of work experience, training, and/or education.
Work Experience:
Must be certified as Class I FRA Train Service Engineer with a minimum of 2 years operating experience with no violations, as described in CFR 49, part 240.117. Prefer Designated Supervisor Locomotive Engineers (DSLE), qualified on physical characteristics of territory. Prefer demonstrated business and/or financial management experience.
Other Requirements:
Must satisfy qualification and requirements as DSLE and qualified on physical characteristics within six months of becoming Road Foreman. Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills, knowledge of CFR 49 requirements, General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR), and BNSF and UPRR special instructions.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Must demonstrate clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Will directly supervise 21 employees directly and 7 employees indirectly.
Travel:
50 percent.
