POSITION: Welding Inspector
DEPARTMENT: Engineering
LOCATION: Perryville, MD
SALARY: $26.51 per hour

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL APPLICANTS

DUTIES: Maintaining records in coordination with inspecting field welds. Thermite welding process, electric arc track and structural welding. Inspects all field welds made. Makes general recommendations on scheduling switch and frog welding and grinding. Qualifies, requalifies, tests and trains welders and oxy/fuel burners. Operates company vehicles on as needed basis in performance of duties. Works within the guidelines of the System Safety Program by being alert to physical hazards which affect operations, including the modification of, recognition of, or cessation of operations when conditions exist or could develop that would conflict with a safe operation environment for Amtrak or others.

EDUCATION: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Must be AWS or Amtrak qualified oxy/fuel welding, track and structural electric arc welding, AMT-2 and RWP qualified. MW1000 qualified. Prior satisfactory job performance is required.

Prefer: ASNT Level II Ultrasonic Testing Certification.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have a valid driver's license. Must have visual acuity and hearing capability sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job unless other vision or hearing standards are required by law. Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull loads in accordance with OSHA and NIOSH recommendations. Ability to obtain ASNT Level II Ultrasonic Testing Certification. (if not presently certified)

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must read, write and speak the English language clearly and have the ability to communicate well.

TRAVEL: 50%
