POSITION: Equipment Engineer

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL APPLICANTS

DUTIES: Oversees and directs the safe operation, maintenance and repair of scheduled and unscheduled issues on Track Laying System (TLS) consist of Roadway Equipment. Plans, assembles materials, schedules and implements overhaul programs for appropriate equipment.

Oversees and directs the safe operation, maintenance, and repair of scheduled on track machinery roadway equipment during the installation of concrete ties and rail and equipment used in conjunction with tie installation on the Northeast Corridor. Develops and implements job specific work plans and ensures procedures are written and updated as conditions dictate.

Ensure adequate materials are available for repair to equipment as necessary without impact to railroad operations. Also assists in the development of a strong safety program for repairman. Plan preventive maintenance and overhauls of on track machinery consist of Roadway Equipment Plan, order inventory required complement of spare parts. Schedule and assign running repairs as needed to on track machinery equipment.

EDUCATION: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Prefer Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience.

WORK EXPERIENCE: Must have experience in engines (gas & diesel) hydraulics and pneumatic systems. Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of roadway equipment.

Preferred experience: Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of roadway machinery. Candidate will be required to supervise other teams.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must have valid drivers license. Must be able to respond to variable hours and work weeks. Ability to supervise teams and manage budgets and manpower. Must be capable of working outdoors in all weather conditions. Position is subject to call outs 24/7. Prior satisfactory job performance is required.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must be computer literate and possess good communication skills.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct: 13 BMWE Agreement.

TRAVEL: 80%.
