DUTIES: The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for leading and directing the operation of a major overhaul, repair, and component backshop. Operation includes oversight of the management and scheduled employee team in the effective and efficient repair of rolling stock equipment including passenger cars. Must ensure production conforms to safety, regulatory and passenger aesthetic requirements. Key ability is to organize complex production plans for large, complex projects which require imagination, problem solving skills, and flexibility. Must be able to organize production resources and direct their efficient use. Responsible for enforcing Corporations rights under collective bargaining agreements. Working with the supply community and with procurements is a major aspect of position. Also responsible for assembling and managing a budget based upon production plans.
EDUCATION: Must have a Bachelors degree in Engineering, Technical Sciences, or Business Management/Administration, or the equivalent combination of education, training and/or work experience. Prefer Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Electrical Engineering.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Must have demonstrated management experience in railway, transit, manufacturing, or capital intensive enterprise. Prefer candidates who are knowledgeable in railway and rail transit rolling stock, contract management and materials procurement, and Quality Control. Completion of multi-year railway shop craft apprenticeship.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Experience in managing multi-shift operation with complex collective bargaining contracts; experience in materials management; experience in process management; knowledge of accepted industry quality standards. Prior satisfactory work performance required.
COMMUNICATION & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
