DUTIES: This position is responsible for the preparation and review of designs for complex structural engineering projects and studies to repair, rehabilitate, or construct bridges and facilities. The Engineer Design Structures reviews engineering designs prepared for outside agencies, for projects to be constructed on Amtrak property, to ensure compliance with Amtrak and industry standards. Provides technical expertise to other departments and makes critical engineering decisions for division engineers and their staffs. This position also reviews and approves construction process issues when requested by field personnel. When necessary this position makes field inspections to investigate situations before making an engineering recommendation.
EDUCATION: Must have B.S. Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or the equivalent combination of education, training and/or work experience. Prefer Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
WORK EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated engineering project experience in Civil and/or Structural Engineering. Prefer candidate with prior railroad bridge and/or movable bridge and/or highway bridge project experience or experience in the structural design of buildings and industrial facilities. Prior satisfactory job performance required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access Project, and AUTOCAD.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Demonstrated experience in oral and written communication both within and outside an organization.
